The Locale

The village of St Chamarand is just 1.5 Kilometers away, with its mini Chateaux, church and fossil museum. In the nearby village of St German du Belair there is a boulangerie, Spa, Post Office, Tourist Office, Pharmacy, and restaurant for one of those long lazy French lunches. The near by town of Gourdon, just 7 Km away provides for all your shopping needs, with 5 Supermarkets, banks, newsagents, Tabac, bars and restaurants. There is a local vegetable market every Saturday morning and a general market every 1st and 3rd Tuesday in the month.

Within a 30 minute drive south lies Cahors, the capital of the Department du Lot. This ancient and fortified town boasts many attractions, its most famous being the Pont Valentre, which is the only bridge in the world that has 3 fortified towers, and crosses the River Lot, which surrounds Cahors itself on 3 sides. Cahors offers many fine outdoor restaurants. A casual coffee sitting watching the world rush past is always a favorite past time. Cahors offers a bustling Market that is held twice weekly.

Again within a 30 minute drive north, there is the Dordogne River, with its unlimited attractions, like Sarlat with its many restaurants and bars, its Saturday market, and its many historic buildings. Just outside Sarlat is the wonderful bastide town of Domme, raised high above the Dordogne River. There are also the castles of the region to visit, and of course, one of the main attractions of the Dordogne is the canoeing.
